Courses and eligibility

No. Our courses are open to everyone.

The course required should be identified in your court order, DMV notice or other instructions. If it is unclear which course you need, confirm with the issuing court, the DMV or your attorney before enrolling. We are glad to explain what each course covers. We cannot give legal advice.

Veterans Driving School provides educational courses, not legal advice. We can answer questions about our courses, enrollment, and certificates, but we cannot interpret court orders or guarantee that a particular course will satisfy a court or agency requirement. Students should confirm acceptance with the court or agency requiring the course before enrolling.

Before you enroll, confirm that the court or agency requesting the course accepts this provider and the online format. This is especially important if your order calls for ASAP or names a particular RADEP provider. Our Both Courses, 12 Hours option includes both courses, but it does not automatically satisfy every RADEP order.

It is for drivers who need to meet a court or DMV requirement, want to earn safe driving points where eligible, or simply want to become safer drivers.

Anyone who wants extra help improving their driving habits, managing stress behind the wheel, and making safer decisions. Drivers may take the course voluntarily, at the recommendation of an attorney, or as part of a court requirement. No particular charge or driving record is required.

It is the 8-hour Driver Improvement Course and the 4-hour Reckless and Aggressive Driving Course in one enrollment. It does not automatically satisfy every RADEP or ASAP order, so confirm what your order requires before enrolling.

A court-directed course is ordered by a judge as part of a case, and the court sets the deadline and the proof it needs. A DMV-directed course is required by the DMV, usually after points build up on your record, and your DMV letter gives the deadline. You will tell us which applies when you enroll, so your completion is handled the right way.

Safe driving points apply to the 8-hour Driver Improvement course, not the 4-hour course by itself. Court-directed students can receive points when the required court documentation authorizes them. DMV-directed drivers 18 and older receive safe driving points. Drivers under 18 do not receive them for DMV-required attendance. Voluntary attendance can also qualify, subject to DMV eligibility rules.

Taking the course

Virginia sets a minimum instruction time, so the 8-hour course takes at least eight hours and the 4-hour course at least four. The courses are self-paced, so you do not have to finish in one sitting.

Yes. Your progress is saved, and you can pick up where you left off on any device. You still need to finish by any deadline your court or the DMV has set. Your enrollment includes 90 days of access from the date you enroll.

The online courses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, once enrollment opens. Customer support is available Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern, and we aim to respond within one business day, although response times may vary.

No. The courses are taken entirely online, so there is no physical classroom or walk-in office. You can reach us by phone or email, or through the contact form.

Yes. You can complete the entire course on your phone, tablet, or computer. You can also switch between devices whenever you like. Your progress is automatically saved.

Yes. The 4-hour course exam has 25 questions, and you need 20 correct to pass. The 8-hour course exam has 50 questions, and you need 40 correct to pass. There is no time limit. For either course, if you do not pass, you can take the exam again on the next business day, as many times as you need, at no extra cost. You do not have to repeat the course.

Virginia requires the school to confirm that the person taking the course is the person enrolled. When you register, you will provide your identification and answer a few security questions. You will then answer two of them at a few points during the course and right before the final exam. Each check takes a few seconds.
